You could always try a clean reinstall of drastic + deleting /drastic/ directory. Probably a rom issue? I never encountered this. If I remember correctly, you are required to save the game during the first half hour of playtime. The instructions are is you press Left+Start to turn it on and Right+Start to turn it of, but I cant seem to get it to work.
